Trying to identify this item. I have gutted a rental home of mine and inside of an original wall I found this. The house is about 120 years old if that gives any clues. I believe it to be fools gold, but as I am not too experienced in identifying rocks or gold I thought I would ask some experts. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

From the photo I'm 99.9% sure it is pyrite. Pyrite is most commonly known as fools gold.

Ditto! Just my humble opinion though.

Some fool stashed that thinking he'd found a real treasure. Cool find! I remember us kids hoarding pyrite. We had no internet back then either.

Definitely pyrite. Probably could have been a kid that hid it. My brother and I used to get nuggets of pyrite like for a few cents at swap meets or the local kids museum. We got it because it looked like gold and would play pirates and bury treasure with it. I am sure some future metal detectorist will probably find some of our stashes.
