Just went through an entire box of Brink's wrapped cents. Not one copper cent was found, unless the composition of a 1940 Canadian Cent is copper. I don't know. Was still nice to find it. Out of the 2500, there were only 22 '82's, which were zinc. The only saving factor for my time was a very nice 2000 WAM. There has been talk about this happening, so........... Would the Treasury pay to have this done? With the price of copper, it might make sense.

I would venture to say that anything is possible but doubtful that the Treasury would do this based upon the relatively low unit value...

From what I've heard, brinks and coinstar are removing coppers for a buyer. I believe they will get 5 million dollars worth of copper cents over the next 2 years. So a lot of copper sorters on the east coast have been reporting skunks this year. Aside from that and the independent sorters (small and industrial size) I haven't heard of the government starting this yet.

The government is culling all silver, copper and Nickel from circulation. I think I would just stop hunting, it is a waste of time and energy.

Of course it's being removed, it's worth more than face. It will take many, many years, but eventually it will as scarce as finding an IHC in a box.
