Can someone please help me distinguish the differences of the small and large 1960's cents. I would like to place them in it's proper slot in my Lincoln Cent album. Thanks, mila_

Hi Mila cent
Yes it is better,, the second coin from the left is the only small date 60-D
and it appears all of the 60 cents are large date.

Hi Susan
I dont see any small date philly coins in the pics,, they all have a high 9,, (small dates the 1 and 9 are level across the top, small fat round O ,shorter tail on the 6.)

The first Philly coin looked like a small date to me, but I could very easily be wrong on that. I had to go by the enlarged image and it is not sharp. At least we both agree on the Denver coin.

I definitely agree with you on the rest. That's the only one I'm unsure about. Did you save the pics to your computer and sharpen the image? I didn't take the time to do that. If you did, then I'm sure you are correct.

Hi Mila Cent
Your responses were becoming pretty long so I split it off of the original, I should have done so earlier so as not to piggy back on anothers post.
Now to try this again !!
1st coin large date 2nd coin small date ,, even has the the tell tale die anomoly on the 6 3rd 60-P coin large date 4th 60-P coin large date
Large date indentifiers ,, High 9,longer tail on 6, larger O
small date Identifiers ,, level 9, shorter tail on 6, smaller O , many coins if not all exhibit the anomoly on the inner end of the loop of the 6 .

Metalman, I didn't mean to 'hog up' the other poster question. I thought that since it was the same question it would be OK. But thanks for separating them. Now to continue question....I have been holding back all 1960's cents for a while, thinking it would be easy to determine which was small or large. Well ..I was wrong, I just couldn't see the difference. Then came you guys, (Coppercoins, Susan and Metalman) Thank you for your time and patience. Now I see it (or a least I think I do) so I will post these 3 sets just to make sure I understand. # 1, 2 and 3 are large dates. Also I notice that in the small date Metalmen id that the '0' is more 'oval' then round. Is this also an identifier for small dates? Thank you again. mila_ Now that I see the images posted it seem that #2 has a shorter tail on the 6. Is this correct? or are my eyes trying to trick me?

Mila Cent - all six of the coins in your latest image are large date. The one to the right of #2 has damage on it.
The difference between large and small date is easiest to see in the 6 of the date. The small date is short and stumpy while the large date is long and extends up and to the right much farther. If you draw an imaginary line straight up from the right side of the 6, you will not touch the top of the 6 on the small date, and you will on the large date. Dunno what else to say that the others haven't said. The 1960 and 1982 are the easiest to tell apart by far...wait til you get to the 1970S small date. Those are a little tougher to tell.

Coppercoins..I did state in my post that I believe the latest images were large dates. I just wanted to confirm my assessment. Metalman's quote from the beginning of this post: quote: 2nd coin small date ,, even has the the tell tale die anomoly on the 6
I notice that in the small date Metalmen id that the '0' is more 'oval' then round. Is this also an identifier for small dates? This was my question. Sorry if I am being a pest. Thank you.
