I can understand your excitement before noticing what it was because I have been there before myself and almost clicked the BIN but I stopped to take a second look and that is when I noticed there was no S MM on the coin

So, did either of you write to the seller informing of the confusion? I have done so maybe three times, and all were quick to thank me.

I always do, Matthew. As you say, generally the seller is quick to thank and correct, but every once in a while someone wants to argue. One guy ended up blocking me after an exchange, because he was so convinced that his 1921 Morgan's reverse image - a C reverse, not used after 1904 - was the right picture.

My last purchase on ebay was a 1886s Morgan. It was gorgeous but the pics were fuzzy so I texted the seller who assured me there was an s mintmark. When the coin arrived, no mint mark. I returned it. My next win was also mislabeled but I caught that before we had exchanged money/coin. I cancelled the purchase and joined CCF! Now I'm just learning so much! I appreciate everyone's generosity with their time, knowledge and experiences.

It isn't a SanFrancisco B1 reverse, but it is a VAM 42, which I'm sure you're aware isn't exactly common in Mint State.

Quote:It isn't a San Francisco B1 reverse, but it is a VAM 42 The coin for sale in that listing doesn't have the S mintmark and on VamWorld a VAM-42 is an 1879-S not a Philadelphia. Ed ANA LM-3175

yes, every date,mm will have a VAM-1 and up so when it says VAM-42 it doesn't have anything to do with the date/mm of the coin

This is the Vam-42 as stated and I do not have it as MS at all ....as well. Not a big deal in AU cleaned as you can see no one hit the BIN on it early.

I walked away the moment I noticed it wasn't a San Francisco coin, and never attributed it. None of the Philadelphia Long Nocks (aside V44, of course) interest me in circulated condition.
