If you do have them graded, send them to NGC which will grade them in their original holders so you don't lose the GSA value.

Thanks. I would definitely prefer to have them kept in the GSA holders.

ANACS grades them in the holders as well. Dont throw away money sending them to NGC.

Thanks for the feedback. If I do send them, do I include instructions "DO NOT REMOVE from the GSA holders"?

That I am not sure of. Just go to the ANACS site and get their phone number and call them Tuesday. They will answer any questions you have.

Those look choice to gem. Better than typical GSA Morgans for sure.
I would only have them graded if I was planning to sell them soon. My guess is they would grade 65, 64, & 64.

Quote: I would only have them graded if I was planning to sell them soon. Half the ANACS on ebay are in the case and half are in a slab so they may be removing them now. If I were to get it graded Id use NGC. If theres a local dealer near you you can get friendly with thats an NGC member you can submit through them and save yourself the membership fee. Same goes for PCGS but in the case of these I agree theyre better in the government holder and unless they change their policy of removing them I wouldnt use them just for these

Great Morgans, Your Dad left you something that you can hand off to the next generation if you want. True family treasure IMHO

First off I missed your greeting post. On this topic - your dad left you three great Morgans. They look MS65 MS64 MS64 to me. As already stated, you will want to keep them in the GSA holders and all the original packaging and documents. If you really want to get them graded by a TPG by all means use NGC to keep them in the GSA holder. If you do not plan to sell them though I suggest saving your money and purchase another coin. in the end it's your call and do whatever makes you happy.

I don't plan on selling, I just figured since these are in such fantastic shape with the bag marks being the lone detractor, I would get them graded just for the sake of getting them graded. Unfortunately, he did not save the boxes or papers that came with the coins. Thanks for the feedback! Jim

NGC will not remove them from GSA holder unless the holder is broken no matter what. I don't know of any other company that has this policy. NGC even has a GSA category on their submission slip for GSA coins for this reason. I have sent many many GSA coins to be graded and I always used the submission form checked gor GSA grading and have never had a problem. With both ANACS and PCGS I believe they crack them out of the GSA holder and all you get is a label stating they were in a GSA holder when they received them. Usually any GSA Morgan that isn't graded will sell for MS-63 prices because most of them will grade at least MS-63. I have seen people that get a grade lower that MS-63 just rip the band off from NGC and still sell the coin for what a MS-63 GSA would normally sell for. If you don't agree with PCGS or ANACS grades you can't do this because if you resubmit them you would have to do it in the slab (or lose the GSA status because its only a GSA coin as long as its in their slab with their label at this point) and they would know what it graded last time and chances are it will grade that again

Quote: the bag marks being the lone detractor The bag marks add character plus I personally have never seen a MS 66 or higher grade given to these type of coins enclosed in these particular type of cases... mdpmedia
