I dunno. Looks like an abysmal strike (reverse) and an ugly color, but the technical detail is better than 63. My guess is it'd have been a 64 if it looked better. This is, of course, all based on the assumption that it's actually Mint State at all, so you may be right.

Always harder to grade coins that are struck weakly.

Ugly toning but I think they graded it properly

The Obverse definitely looks to be at least MS-63 but the reverse definitely doesn't look to be MS-63 worthy, mainly because of the breast feathers. IMO

I always have difficulty observing the technical detail Dave mentions and getting past the low eye appeal and toning, if that is what that is.

Don't know about

ugly color
but it definitely is UGLY.

I would not give it a 63 and perhaps not even MS based on the photos alone.

Like we've all said before and know, grading is subjective.

Based on PCGS online photo grading, I would say this coin is between an AU 58, maybe a MS 61.

Well, the bidders not only considered it a 63 but added value for the variety. V41's aren't exactly common in Mint State, one of the reasons I rather thought the grade was legit. This is one of those where a TPG might be hesitant about creating value.

If I were grading the coin on the Reverse alone I would say AU but joined with the Obverse and knowing the Obverse usually wears more than the Reverse I will say I agree with the grade. It definitely has some bad looking toning in the pictures but I have seen and gotten some coins from Heritage and teletrade that look close to that in the pictures but they actually have some blues and reds showing in hand and look really nice. I guess what I am saying since the Obverse looks MS I am going to have to agree with the TPG on this one
