I'm debating buying this coin from a man close by (not ebay) but have no idea what to look for in terms of fakes and know that this is a commonly counterfeited coin... It seems right to me but I figured I'd ask the experts... The pics are horrible and I can't upload them from my phone.. But here's a link to my Flickr page where the pics he sent me are posted... Sorry for the inconvenience of having to open another site but any help would be greatly appreciated...Even if the pics are no help what should I look for? Be idea a magnet test, weighing it, etc... Thanks a lot! There's 6 pics total, just click on them and they'll blow up... A little... Here's the link: http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/80611406@N07/

Ask him to send it out to ANACS and tell him if it comes back legit you'll refund his ANACS fee/postage.

I agree, there is no way to tell any details from those photos. If you are purchasing it from photos I would have to have some clearer shots of the coin because these aren't sufficient to tell if its real or not Quote: .Even if the pics are no help what should I look for? Be idea a magnet test, weighing it, etc... All of those are good ideas but there is no set pattern on what to actually look for on each coin as they are all different. If you do not know how to detect a counterfeit by eye then You would either need allot better pictures to post on here for help or have it graded like was mentioned above. This is a highly counterfeited date/mm coin so if you can't do either of these things I mentioned I would just walk away because its not worth the risk unless you are getting it for something like 20 bucks and even then you would be over paying (imo) if it turned out to be counterfeit but it would be worth the risk if $20.00 isn't 1/4th of all the money you have available to lose

He supposedly has THE key date CC Morgan, and those are the best photos he can take? Pass, big time.

I would stay away. The pictures are not clear enough to authenticate. If you are curious, ANACS has an article by John Roberts explaining how to authenticate this date.

He lived near me and met me at a local coin store so I could see it in person. I couldn't tell either way once in hand, but the owner of the shop confirmed it was a really nice fake... Needless to say I passed on it. In fact, before I went to meet him I actually told him I'd pass on it anyways unless graded, but asked if he'd mind if I tagged along to the store and checked it out just for a better understanding and he didn't mind at all. I honestly believe he didn't know.. He was hurt when he heard the news... Not to mention he lost a lot on $ on it... He had the receipt for when he bought it in a small lot of coins.. I feel bad for him, but it was a great learning experience for me...

Too many people with limited knowledge get burned buying high powered coins. Always best to stick with TPG coins until you know how to tell a real coin from the fakes. If you have to ask, you aren't ready.
