I'm a little puzzled with this one. It has BRITT on the front, but I don't associate Florin with UK coinage. Am I in the right section with this one?

You're in the right place. That's a 1936 George V Florin from Great Britain.

At the risk of sounding like a moron....what's a florin? I'm familiar with pounds, shillings, etc, I just don't know where the florin fits.

the name florin is taken from its connection to old english coinage and because other european countries had coins of about the same size and weight and they were also called florins...........

What is the composition of these? I picked up a '29 1 Florin at a coin show for 1.25 I think. It says silver on the 2X2, is that correct? and did they orientate the coins like they do in the U.S.? when I flip from obverse to reverse it is rotated about 150 degrees?

British silver coins were sterling silver (.925 fine) until 1919/1920, they were then debased to .500 fine.

British coins, since the Jubilee series of Queen Victoria in 1887, have been oriented "right way up" (ie the opposite to the normal American "upside down" orientation). On the reverse, the sceptres are supposed to be diagonal, making an "X" shape, not a "+" shape. The word "florin" should be at the 6 o'clock position.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Thanks for the info on the composition. and when I flip my coin the word Florin is at the 11:00 O'clock position. How are these graded by the way? I would guess mine at AU. Sorry for all the questions but I know nothing about foreign coins, (and next to nothing on U.S.) I just picked this one up with a german, french, and belgian coin because they looked interesting.

You know what, this is really strange I have just sold one of those in a lot full of British coins. I am really surprised you don't associate Florins with Uk coinage, they are the old word for tenpence. Lovely coins of those years..
