Seen this in my browsing, just flagging it for the curious among us.

A 2013 $1 coin appearing in a 2012 proof set.

That is most likely the set found in Geelong, as mentioned in CABN's August edition (page 64)

Wants $12,500 for it? Tell him he's dreaming....

Also have for sale mint sets without colored crown part on 50c, asking $1,500

Ha seen ended items and was asking $55,000 for the proof set
Anyway I will attack a pic of the $1 just in case the picture gets removed.

Its been relisted

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...120982807439

The asking price is now $9,500.

I guess he is trying to get in quick because once the 2013 proof set comes out, interest will fade. It will just be another proof set with a wrong dated coin in it.

I must say that numismaticly these sort of sets have no interest for me. After all the coins themselves are all fine, it just happens to have been packaged wrongly.

I wonder if this would be as valuable with a standard proof 2011 50 cent coin in it instead of the selectively gold plate beauty that this sent is renowned for

One of these sets is on ebay again

http://www.ebay.com/itm/36085640152....m1438.l2649

Now we know that the 2013 $1 MOR can be found in the 2013 proof set so it really is just a packaging error. Some people will find this collectable but my opinion hasn't changed from 2 years ago. Numismaticly these sort of sets have no interest for me.

I would be interested in finding out how it happened though. This is the only "error" set with a coin from a future date. These coins would have been minted during 2011. How did a 2013 obverse die get involved?

Is it just me, or does anyone else think the packaging looks a little worse for wear around the dollar coin on this latest ebay sale?
