Hi all,

I just got a delivery from the US Mint and came across a different, more course surface finish of the El Yunque 5oz ATB (left is course finish, right is what all other ones I got look like):

I hope it's visible what I'm talking about. It's very obvious to the naked eye, but my scanning abilities are not the best. The other four I got (2012 ATB's) look like the right one in terms of their surface finish.

So far, I'm only aware of a "light" finish on the Grand Canyon (http://www.coinnews.net/2011/07/19/...ed-by-ngc/).

If anyone had similar, "course-finished" coins, please let me know!

Personally, I prefer the courser finish as it makes the coin look more plastic, and it also provides more detail (see the feathers on the bird's belly).

NGC has certified very small number of Hot Springs (15) and Yellowstone (4) ATB as Light Finish. That's a lot less than Grand Canyon (381).

There hasn't been one certified since Grand Canyon, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

I agree that the image looks shallower, as if the strike was not a deep. I prefer the image on the right. I think it shows more details.

I first noticed this on obverse side with George's image.

It looks like quality of the coin is deminished.

I was going to say I knew the first ones definitely had two different finishes but I thought they had addressed that issue but the way people described the finishes on the earlier ones it sounds just like you describe so it very well may be the same as what happened before

Maybe you have a rare HR ATB!

No but I agree the one on the right does look sharper.
