My local PNC branch only sells bags of coins for $1K. Does anyone have any experiences to share in regards to doing business with PNC? Are the bags searched and is there silver finds? Thanks in advance.

I havent used pnc bank before but as far as silver goes, it will all depend on where you are. Some areas you can still find silver roll searching while other areas (quarters and half dollars especially) have been picked dry. Worse case you still have as much money as you started with so there really is no risk, but if you did an entire 1k bag and found nothing I wouldnt waste the time trying again unless you enjoyed doing it. I've heard rumors some of the rolling companies are actively removing silver but its just that a rumor. If you have the money to spare its probably worth a shot to see how it goes, just dont try and dump it all back at once or they will more than likely get mad. If they have an automatic change machine in the lobby its not really a problem

I've bought many bags, but there are no PNC banks here. It's not easy to convince a bank to sell a bag of coin to a customer, many times the hunter will come back crying because the bag is (usually) short. My last $1,000 quarter bag was $7 short, and the find did not cover it. I no longer buy bags of halves off the counter anymore because they have been dumps with no keepers. Good luck.

I'm assuming your $1K bags come off of a coin counter in your local bank, I use PNC a lot, but they don't have coin counters in my area so I get boxes from them. I would say it depends on the amount of coin dumpers in your area and specifically at that particular bank. In my area there is only one bank with a coin counter (not a PNC) and it is heavily used for dumping (myself included). I have heard of people doing well with bags in non-dumping areas. It really depends on how the bank is used by its customers. You can find out by buying a bag or two, or general conversation with the people who deal with the coin machines and how many bags the have each week. If they have a lot of bags, they probably are heavily dumped on. Doesn't mean you won't find silver, just means less silver per coin checked if it's heavily used for dumping.

I used to get half dollars from PNC but they only ever had NF String boxes, not bags. I had some good cent boxes from there also, pulled quite a few teens.

I may add that one out of 15 of my banks have a coin counter, although all the banks send out $500 and $1,000 bags of loose when they take in an excess of customer rolls. In the case of one of my branches, that may mean a $1,000 bag of dimes every two weeks (they call me). Full bags of halves? Not often.

When I asked the teller if they sold boxes she stated they do not sell boxes. However she did offer to sell me $1K bags. I just wonder if the bags may have been looked through by bank personel.

Possibly. Theres no way to tell if the bank employees have searched it or not. They arent supposed to but things dont always happen like they are supposed to. Its unlikely but possible
