Here is a pic This is the second clipped 50c I have found. I think the other one is from the 70s.

These are reasonably scarce, but I have one or two. Well worth keeping in a collection of error coins.

I know there are not many clipped coins! I have been through MANY 50c coins mainly looking for "2000 incuse" and "2010 rotated" I am keeping them!

I found my first clipped 50c a few weeks ago when I got $1600 of Chubb rolls hoping to find a rotated 2010. A small consolation prize for not finding one. Thanks to a very very generous ccf member I now have one though

just checked mine and they are 1975 an 1978. Do these type of errors occur randomly across all years?

I think these are a fault during making the blank planchet, so any change in frequency would probably correspond with a change in manufacture of the blanks (or a change in quality control of the blanks or finished coins)

Thanks for sharing that one oz, Í hadn't seen a clipped 50c before. (I think we need a smilie eating a choc top, way too much popcorn last night.)

Thanks Ozcoins I'll continue checking all years for clipped planchets when noodling through 50 cent coins. TCH

We wrote an article in CAB magazine a few months ago. They can happen to any year and any denomination. When the blanks are punched out of the metal strip there's sometimes a malfunction or feeding error and the new blanks are punched when the strip hasn't advanced far enough along. Something like this:
