I'm considering buying a headband magnifier for use moslty at those times when I am sorting through coins trying to read the dates with my old eyes. Is there a particular brand and/or type that anyone would recommend? Also, what power would you recomend for coins?
All opinions valued and appreciated.

Sorry. I just saw that you never got a response to this. I purchased one but found that it was uncomfortable so I didn't use it. Unfortunately, I threw it out when we moved. I wish now I hadn't. I could have given it to you.
I hope someone else here can give you some good advice.

I don't have a headband magnifier, but will be interested in any responses you get. Hands free noodling would have to be good I reckon. I know they are available in Oz for under $20 plus postage from various mail order places. Not sure of the degree of magnification though. Every time I go to the dentist I want to ask her where to get one, but I always end up with jangled nerves & forget all about it. not

I don't have a head magnifier, but I do have one like this: This is hands free and also helps take great pictures. You can get these off ebay pretty cheap....

The only ones that I've seen in use are when my manufacturing guys are soldering really small cables into high density solder cup connectors. Not sure of the magnification, but I know the ones that we have must be comfortable as some of them will wear them for more than an hour at a time.
I know jewelers use them as well, and I would assume they have pretty good magnification since some of the timing mechanisms in watches are really small...Maybe check out a watch or jewelry supply store, or even ask your local jeweler for their thoughts. Now that I think about it, I know that my jeweler has a pretty nice microscope too. I should ask if it has USB or DB9 hook up? hmmmmm

The Opti Visor is a brand all the modelmakers use. Good quality.

Place called American Science & Surplus. Toll free number is 1-888-724-7587, fax 1-800-934-0722. For technical support 1-847-647-0011 Then of course there is https://www.sciplus.comIn their catalog on page 40 in the section on OPTICS they have them with built in lights for $8.95 Same page they have some for without lights and some with interchangeable lenses. Also, they carry magnification systems with stands, with lighting, full page magnifiers and on and on and on and on. Also, telescopes, microscopes, binoculars and on and on and on. More fun going through the actual store than their catalog though. I ended up buying about 10 different magnifing glasses for about $30. Have at least 2 with me at all times since I go to coin shows all the time. A person could get lost in that place for hours. Greatest electronic ear protectors for shooting guns. Scales for weighing coins, just lots and lots of stuff. If your ever near Skokie, Illinois give the place a try.

I've got the ones with lights and ones without lights. If your using the ones with lights for a long time the batteries naturally get weak. However, once you use the ones with lights and hands free to move the cois at will, you'll never go back to anything else. Also, very great for removing splinters from my fingers, reading writing on tiny things, etc. Never could figure out why some companies put writting on items that requires a magnifier to read.
