I usually do not get pulled into the "raw" coin realm anymore, but this Pan-Pac Commem has a nice appeal to me. This issue can get pricey quick; I have not had a good track record with raw coins being slabbed, what does the CCF think of this commemorative? Thanks as always! This coin has good eye appeal and AU in appearance. A better example than mine.

My eyes see an XF-45 / AU-50 coin. Still attractive, however, and one of my favorites of the series!

My views FWIW ... The coin is genuine ... always good to start with that. This lovely Pan Pacific has a technical grade of XF45 ... albeit with original surfaces and an honest toning that will appeal to many collectors. Key to the grade is the magnitude of wear at the high points ... in particular observe the wear on the head of the obverse portrait and the reverse eagle right leg ... both points sufficiently beyond AU. Key to the surfaces is visual evidence of the original tab-toning ring that most of these Pan Pacific exhibit around both the obverse and reverse rims ... I can see this marker in the photos ... and that is impossible to fake. This is a lovely, honest-surfaces XF45 Pan Pacific IMHO ... and a worthy addition to any collection. David

EF45 would seem to be about right to me. There is a small flat spot of old wear on the eagle's right breast, and a loss of sharp definition on other high points of the design on both sides.
The coin has toned since this wear has been sustained.

The seller is asking for AU money, I sent an offer in between XF & AU...we'll see. UPDATE: The seller was only willing to cut $10 off the asking price. It is available through ExecutiveCoin if anyone agrees to $365 (listed for $375). Numismedia Fair Market Values; VF20 - 161 XF40 - 207 AU50 - 391 Thanks all!

I will check back with the seller in about a month for "re-haggling". Idea for another thread!

...two months later...the seller is still insisting on the asking price, and I am still hung-up on acquiring it.

I think that $350 is much to high to be paying for this coin. Should grade XF45-AU50. There is a line that goes around the inside edge through the center of the of the wording of both the rev and obv. Do you know if this is a tone line or some type of light scratch?

nickelsearcher mentioned this above; "Key to the surfaces is visual evidence of the original tab-toning ring that most of these Pan Pacific exhibit around both the obverse and reverse rims ... I can see this marker in the photos ... and that is impossible to fake" This type is on the "back-burner" for now since I (unexpectedly) won an 1849 Seated dollar last week.
