I have a few old colonial coins but just to gather for the history. I doing some research about coin circulation in the area I live. I live in Témiscouata region wich is close to New Brunswick border. Colonial coin would be an interesting topic for me.

I have a few samples but it hasn't been my focus of collection (yet!). I was actually debating picking up one of the reference books on them earlier today but decided against it. Maybe next year!

hiCanada65. Our area is quite new for settling. It has started around 1812 with a first settler Philip Long who was carrying mail. Around the same time the british have built a fort called Ingall. What they have find up to date are a few british coins, some in a well. So I am interested in british coins from the beginning of the 1800's to around 1858. I want those mainly to prepare some for museum in the area and I'm preparing some workshops about the history of money for high schools. I already have a 1826 shilling. I've got some tokens as well but I'm not sure if their use was common in Témiscouata.
I'm looking for New Brunswick coinage too. I've bid lately on NB tokens. I'm still doing some research on what really ciculate here.

As for what coinage cerculated in you area before and around 1800's.Depended on either the fur trade, shipping and any other industry in that area.
In the french spaeking area's there wa sa lot of earlie french coinagedating from around late 1500's to around earlie 1700's.
There also was trade between the staes and canadian border towns, for trade .
And don't forget the british. The most common coin were were either copper , and or silver.
But new brunswick had coinage shipped from halifax, for use in new brunswick.
Hope some of this info helps.
Let me know if there is any thing I can help with.

I am in the U.S. and I have a bunch, mostly dragon slayers, Montreal, quebec bank tokens, but also wellington, 1812, P.E.I., N.B., shipping, Trade commerce, sous, etc.. I think at least one of each of the more common issues. I started collecting the small and large Canada cents and just got sucked into the tokens by the history of these big old coppers.

Welcome!

I'm a big colonial token collector. I'm probably one of the few trying to collect the entire PE-10-x series (I have most of the non-rare ones).

And I can see why, I have 3 of them and my head still hurts from trying to identify each one. Very tough to do.

I agree, and I know I would be lost in this series without mines.
