Chinese counterfeit Victoria 25 cents can be readily identified by their obverses. There is nothing abnormal about the obverse,it is a clone of a real OBV2 coin.Being clones they have all the defects unique to the original coin.No two genuine circulated coins are identical but the fakes are.Fortunately for Victoria 25 cents the donor obverse had a T with an incomplete serif, and a few gouges. I have outlined(on the ebay coin) in red another marker not noted by nickelsguy.Sometimes all of the markers are not clearly visible in a photo, for me the clincher is the serif of the T.

With the help of nickelsguy, I have access to all the images of Canadian and NFLD counterfeit coins, made in Hong Kong - China. I think this forum would benefit from a separate 'Coin Fact' page about this. I want to solicit your opinion first, before contacting and making a pitch to the forum administrator.

You know my opinion SPP: as stated on a reply above, I think this forum has a lot to gain by hosting Mr. Marshall's work.

Tell Mike that he'll get his 2005 Twoonie when I get my Walleye fishing trip that he promised...

Forget about looking for any 'markers'.
All you need to know is look at the surfaces.
"Nickelsguy's" close up pictures shows it all.
Look at the 'pebbly' or micro sand blasted surfaces of this coin.
ALL Chinese fakes have this 'rough' surface texture.
Get to know it and you won't have to look for any markers.

I would love to think it is that easy. The forgers were capable of deliver on demand coins with different levels of wear. I agree, that the almost dead appearance of this coin is a give away, but it is far from being the rule.
As I wrote above, learn your series.

the counterfeit 40% siler and 90% silver versions from China have the same markers but not the surface of the white metal planchets. Go figure.

A little of topic here but is there anyway in this forum you can tag topics such as this to be able to refer back to them easily?
