GR58 yea the blank commemorative page I saw holds halves, you could either do all 16 modern commemorative halves or do a small set of early commemorative halves. There is 48 early commemorative halves. I was thinking of doing the page and doing all the modern commemorative halves in it and then just buying a separate Dansco album for the early commemoratives and doing that entire set. The nice thing is that would also allow me to expand for at least 4 more modern halves which would allow me to last at least another decade (it seems they only do modern commemorative halves every few years since 1996 they have only done four 2001, 2003, 2008 and 2011). I'd like to see more modern commemorative dollars in the new Dansco for sure to match the halves they should do at least 4 of each. I am not sure why they don't do a 65-68 Kennedy because that is clearly a distinct type coin being made of %40 silver and then doing a 69-date clad Kennedy. I could see them adding some of the modern coin changes like how the Jefferson nickel has changed its obverse as well as how the Lincoln coin changed its reverse. I could also see them adding a spot for a Presidential dollar and a spot for one of the national parks quarters.

I have four " holes" left in my slabbed 7070; Classic Head Cent 1808-14 3¢ Piece 1851-73 » Silver Capped Bust Half Dime 1829-37 Liberty Seated Half Dime 1837-59 One good thing about my "slabbed" version...flexibility. I am not (at this time) going to have four Commemorative Half Dollars (I have one, Texas. A potential Panama Pacific, San Diego and Stone Mountain in my future). Then I will probably work on some upgrades. I don't think that I will tackle the gold page...yet.

Good thinking OIH8... I've been through three iterations on my 7070 and have no thoughts of adding the gold page. Little yellow things cost too much money in my book (pardon the inference).... PG

I liked doing the gold page but that was back when gold was a reasonable price and a Saint Gaudens could be had for $300, now with the price of gold I don't see myself doing the gold page again. I guess if I ever got the set complete and was done upgrading it I might consider the gold page again but that is years away. I was thinking today it might be fun to do a Silver Eagle set, 1987-2012 is just 25 coins and would run just about $1000. But then again with the quality they make eagles with today it would probably get pretty boring and it would likely be traded in for other coins haha

I started working on a 19th century obsolete coin set a few years ago. I didn't quite finish yet. Then lately I have been thinking about doing the 7070. I have not gotten the book yet (I was going to put this on my Christmas list). No gold page though. Too rich for my blood. But I am trying to get most older coins in XF-AU. When is the new Dansco 7070 coming out? Is it this year? If so, I will hold off getting it until then.

I grabbed one of the old 7070's, used, about 6 months ago. Just filled hole #49 of 76. I collect most older stuff in lower grades. When silver was below $30 I picked up a Liberty Head half, Walking Liberty half, '64 Kennedy half, Columbus commem half, Morgan dollar and Peace dollar since the price of silver affects them quite a bit. Now that silver is up I will look for a Trade dollar and other things since prices for even the low grades far exceed the melt value so silver prices don't affect the sale price of those as much. I bought a Gold page, but put it on a shelf in case gold drops below $500 per ounce again. If not, that page will NEVER be populated or put in the album.

I just looked at Kenkat's 7070 set (very nice) to see what coins I need. It turns out that I already have 55 out of 76 needed. I am doing better than I thought. Now I just need to get an album to put them in.

I think the 7070 set is one of the most valuable collections of history a coin owner could complete. To have a collection of the same type, dates and mint marks varying, is an accomplishment (sometimes QUITE an accomplishment), but the type set lays out a history of US coinage through the years. I'd like to see an add on page describing the history from one coin to the next, including info on the designer, the politics of the time leading to the a coin (example, the politics surrounding the Morgan dollar), etc etc. There are a couple coins I thought would be nice for which to add holes, but not IMHO to delineate between a matte or proof coin of the same type. Those holes may be for coins that are quite expensive, though, but at least they'd be available to those with the means or eventual means.

perfessor, I don't see why they can't make more than one type set with like you said proofs they do it for other sets (like you can get a p and d statehood album or a p,d and s statehood album). Then its up the buyer which album they want and if you wanted to do the proofs as well you have the option.

If you have issues with what is, and what isn't, included in the 7070 you can always create your own Type Set album. Eagle Coin Holders sells an album that holds 9 slabbed coins per page with up to 5 pages per binder. It's a 3-ring binder so you can add whatever informational pages you wish. So if you don't see the point of a 1909 VDB since the initials were added back later anyway, but you're surprised that they didn't include a space for pre-1982 and post-1982 content pennies, etc., you can make your own rules! Also, if you collect higher quality stuff you don't have to crack open the slabs which helps preserve resale value for your heirs (if you care about such things).
Coins are a secondary hobby for me, so I'm satisfied with the 7070, but in my primary hobby, stamp collecting, I created dozens, if not hundreds, of my own pages to fit what I decided to collect after lots of research.

I know that this is way out there, and as you can tell by the numbers of my post, I am quiet a newbie. I have started 2 coins of the twentieth century albums one for my son and I. I started doing this about a year ago, and have invested quiet a bit of money in it so far. I am about 6 coins away from being done with both. My question to you is on this Dansco 7070. Wow that's alot of coins, and gold!! I know that when gold was 300 an ounce times where different. But what would one say a Dansco 7070 full with every hole filled would sale for. Lets say the coins had all came from circulation. I try to look it up on ebay, but all I ever see is just the empty folders. I enjoy reading these comments and hearing stories about guys like yourself who have been collecting for years. Hard to build such a huge nice set, when on a fixed income. Thanks for sharing all your photos and words of wisdom. Josh
