Poll Question
While no two coins wear exactly the same, how does PCGS give the same grade to two obviously different amounts of wear on these two 1860-O Dollars? I was looking at these two Seated dollars and was doing a side by side comparison and was amazed at such differences in the same grade. The big thing that I noticed was the detail of the wings between the two. The seller of coin "A" states; "Full Original XF Example. Great coin with both XF detail and eye appeal and completely original surfaces" While seller of coin "B' states; "Super PQ++".
Which one of these would you think is more "correct" and which one is over/undergraded?
Thanks for your all you do to enhance our great hobby!
Judging by the difference in the reflection of the light on the PCGS hologram one seems to have been shot in very flat light the other to hightlight detail. I don't know using these pictures you get an accurate comparison of the coins. Not apples to apples to me.
Quote: Or is coin "A" the result of a weak strike/filled die (ONE DOL.)?
I don't think I have seen one where the "One Dol" is that weak before. The weakness in stars on the right, the right side of the eagle's neck, the eagle's right wing, and the eagle's right leg do not appear to be entirely a result of wear. Weak strike does look to be factor in the lack of details.
Coin B does look to have the details of a EF but has been lightly cleaned. It would be nice if you could combine the originality of A with the details of B.
