My guess is its a lot like the omaha bank hoard. These things seem to be all over the place with no real description.

There are 3 other coins for sale on the Collectors Corner site -- all saying US Vault Collection. But no other explanation is given. But maybe they could answer your question.

I was going to say just some type of pedigree but they usually put that under everything else instead of on top. I have never seen these before and have no idea what they mean

I'd say it's either a registry set pedigree, or some promoter paid PCGS to put that on their submission. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the US Mint or US government.

No image on the PCGS website but there is this info and not sure about the "pedigree"; According to the PCGS Certification Database, the requested certification number is defined as the following:
COIN INFORMATION Cert Verification #: 14744925 PCGS Coin #: 9737 Date, mintmark: 1996-W Denomination: $5 Variety: Flag Minor Variety: Mint Error: Pedigree: Country: The United States of America Grade: PR69DC Mintage: 32,886 PCGS Price GuideSM Value: $485 Holder Type: Standard Population: 1,559 http://www.pcgs.com/Cert/14744925/

OK so the certification tells us nothing except basic information. No one from PCGS forum has gotten back to me yet. It seems strange that PCGS would allow someone to use US Vault in a pedigree. Makes it seems like it's from the US gov't. We all know about Binion, Redfield, Omaha, GSA. Would PCGS let someone use a pedigee like this? Like to find out more about this. Thanks again to those who replied. Will wait for some more replies.

edgman, I have no concrete information to offer, just an opinion: 1) MOST EVERY US coin, at one time or another, has spent time in a vault 2) Grading companies appear to be bought off easily 3) With a nod to Phineas T. Barnum, "There is a sucker born every minute."
Stick the words "US" on any product and people think that it makes it somehow official. "Vault" evokes a subliminal message that somehow the coin in question was special and thus hidden away.
edgman, I just came back from a wonderful weekend at a regional coin show. But your question has brought me back to reality with a thump. Not at all your fault in anyway. Just saying that in addition to education, we members have the duty to caution others about what we consider to be "distractions" to the real, traditional and HONEST world of coin collecting.

To me this is somthing that appears to be misleading and I cannot see a company such as PCGS to be involved in something like this. Who exactly is US Vault? Thats what I want to know. Can anyone who submits a coin to them ask or pay for a Pedigree to be put on the label.

Quote: Can anyone who submits a coin to them ask or pay for a Pedigree to be put on the label. No they cant. Anyone who submits a bulk lot can have their own labels put on it but they have to be truth full. The US Vault is a large collection. There looks like theres at least 20 on ebay alone and seems to be mostly gold.

The name is misleading. When I first saw it I thought it was a govt release. Very disapointed at PCGS for letting someone use it thst way. And SuperDave your right about "First Strike" coins also. Wonder how carefully those coins were graded? Remember guys this is only our personal opinions.

Its not PCGS, NGC has them too and I have no clue who started it. More than likely it literally is just a hoard that was found in a random vault. I can see how some people could think that but just saying US doesn't mean that just like Federal Express isn't part of the fed and American Airlines isn't our national airline. That said, Itd be nice if PCGS/NGC would add a page to their websites with a list of the different hoards they label and a brief description
