I'm seeing a fairly flat strike, but also a *bit* of wear. This variety gets kinda scarce in this grade range - I'm going to throw out *maybe* AU50, with the understanding that no conclusion about the originality of the surfaces can be made from these images - but if it's original, you're looking at a $4-500 coin.

I will be directing Susan to this thread.

As to the grade, I agree with SsuperDdave, AU50.

Since I have a particularly love for bust halfs, what exactly is an overton 110? What should I be looking at?

Here is what coin zip says:

1829 Large Letters O-110, R2

Recut 9 with the first cutting showing to the right side of the final 9.

D of UNITED and S of STATES very close - less than 3/4 mm apart.

I can not wait for my copy of that book to get here. Just ordered it yesterday. I definitely agree with AU50 on that.

Coinguy, I'm not sure what everyone else is/was seeing, but the images I'm seeing are of the 1827 from your other topic. Could you please add the images of the 1829 to this topic? When I see them, I'll be happy to help you out.

OK, now I'm confused. The images in this thread, and your 1827 thread, are now the exact same images of the 1829. Yet, Susan saw the 1827 here.

Yes, I posted the 1827 under the 1827 thread and the 1829 thread. I messed
up
the 1829 thread (this one). I recently posted the right photos.

I think both sets of pictures were uploaded under the same name and they changed when each set was uploaded. I already posted in the 1827 topic.

This one actually appears to possibly be the next die state which would make it an O-110a. I can see a faint crack above TATES OF AMERI, though the crack at the leaves through 50 C. is not visible. This may be due to a lack of sharpness in the images. The markers are the same for the O110 and the O110a except for the exceptions noted above and the reverse is referred to as G-s2. Both have a rarity rating of 2 (slightly uncommon 500-1000 known) They are:

Obverse 6: 9 shows recutting at the right. Lips are parted to half depth of the mouth.

Reverse G: 50 C is high. Right sides of T and I are in line. The letters of the legend are large with the words crowded together. Only 3/4mm separates UNITED and STATES. Line 3 of stripe 4 extends well below the shield. This reverse die was used in 1828 as Reverse P).

I see this coin as a solid EF40. There is a little more flattening of the cap folds, hair, and claw detail than I am comfortable with for a grade above EF40. It may reach EF45 in a slab, though.
