How much does an American 1950 half dollar go for these days? Anything above melt? I have that and 3 silver dimes that I'm going to sell. dimes are 1948, 1956d and 1958. Just getting a feel for the prices. Only reference I have is melt values. Any insight would be appreciated!

Unless they are in really fantastic shape, they are worth the melt value. If they are in really great shape, and I mean they look almost perfect, don't clean them or you would bring any value they did have down to melt.

I'm a dealer. For the Franklin IF it is a true BU then you can get about $20 for it.IF it is with Full bell lines and BU then $35 plus or minus $5.Otherwise melt; as long as you don't sell to a dealer! The dimes in BU about $5 to $7 for the 48; $3 to $5 for the 56d; and $3 for the 58. Now those are top end prices with BU coins with great surfaces and no problems. Toning can be a price adder....but toning is really really subjective. Good luck!

If you are new to pricing and grading there are several sites that you can use to improve your knowledge in both areas. For grading, if you don't have a Photo-grade book, use the PCGS "Photograde" site at: http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/For pricing info try the Numismedia site: http://numismedia.com/Have fun!

Thank you for the help. From what I've been able to find, there is nothing special about these coins and are not in bu condition. I would grade them at VG to F...so I was pricing them at $19 for the lot. Just wanted to see if anyone knew something that may have slipped through the cracks by me. I'm not much of a numi guy rather just bullion and a few albums on the go. I dont have the time or resources to get into it on that level, but I do keep an eye out for items that people here have said to watch for. Found a 1985 cent in nearly BU condition as well as a 1961 cent also in nearly BU condition when penny searching. They mean nothing to me but since people have said to watch for them, I pulled them so I might be able to help someone here out down the road!

That is a more than fair price. With the price spike figure at 25 times face for a bullion value...as a seller. If selling to a dealer figure a fair price is 22 to 23 times. They have to make a profit too. But they don't have to make a killing based on ignorance!

....yeh! I'm clean up my odds and ends about every 2 months and put it to what I like to stick with. I'm 2 oz short of filling my coin capsule tube with silver maples and 5 Canadian quarters short of filling a tube of 80% quarters. I have these American coins and 3 sterling quarters to go into the pot as well as about 12 50% Canadian dimes. With the trade I made you, I didnt care about the coins really, was just glad to help out. But like to know what I have before I sell. Hehe.

Nate, if you want to post this as a lot in buy/sell/trade, I'd be interested. I have no Franklin halves.
