From the picture, I think that it just might be harsh lighting. If it was cleaned, it was only lightly cleaned.

These guys are terrible. Read the feedback. They always clean and polish. Check out their Mercs, they usually look awful.

Wow, thanks 52Raymo - didn't look @ feedback, just the coin. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks again. They're only 15 minutes away, was considering seeing it in person but why bother? Plenty of good dealers here in Pdx

Awesome, we have 4-5 Oregonians now that frequent the boards. I think they're having a show up your way this weekend.
Edit....Grants Pass, I guess.

That appears to be a nice 38d...but if you look closely at the obverse, you will see quite a few side to side scratches. That would be a little concerning I'm a fellow Oregonian, In Roseburg but didnt have the money to go to the Gun/Knife/Coin show. Bills hit me hard

Nice to meet ya CGCoins, I think I see what you mean ... near the rays seem to be the most obvious (?)
Would love to go to the show but can barely afford the parking! :)

I agree they take silver polish AND RUB every Merc they get; except maybe the absolute brightest coins. You would think they would figure it out after they have relisted the same coins time after time.

however I'm not saying that is a bad thing, I still like the coin for its aesthetics, but you know others, and their hatred of cleaning : ) but yea pretty pricy for a cleaned coin

Quote: If it was cleaned, it was only lightly cleaned. That's not a light cleaning. Poor lighting and a harsh cleaning on this coin. The $185.00 starting bid price is too much for this coin, it should be $40.00 to $50.00 less to be fairly priced given its present condition. Ed ANA LM-3175

The only way a coin with that many marks on it is blast white is by cleaning and or polish.
