I picked this Capped Bust Dime up prior to the weekend and it's out for delivery. I just wanted to know what your thoughts in comparison to what NGC graded this one at. Hopefully the images are not too small. Thanks for your comments! (sellers cropped images) Edited by oih82w8 09/17/2012 11:20 pm

i'll be shocked if they went higher than a VF30/35 but this is NGC and they are super odd at some of the gradings I have seen them assign...
its a nice example i want to venture a price tag in and around the $175 range give or take a few bucks

Twinkle, twinkle, little stars...I like the detail in them. I am not sure what the line is to the right of the date.

I would say around VF30. Looks like a die crack or a hair next to the date.

I don't know, it is dark, like a shadow, possible "depth" indication of a cracked planchet.

the strike on the stars is fantastic, I agree i am anxious to see the grade on the slab, I am all in at VF35 i know you are only about higher graded coins for your 7070 so I am surprised you did not hunt down a graded 45
but I also know that there are only 168 hours in a week and there is no way you can take on a 5th job to layout $285 for a XF40 so you took the hundred less coin in the 35, that is my final guess

It looks VF35 to me. An XF40 holder would be no surprise and I wouldn't argue. There looks to be a touch of mint luster peeking out that could earn the XF grade.

dsfreeworld, you are right on so many levels, but not the grade (according to NGC);

My guess was going to be VF-35 but it doesn't sound like that was what it was graded.

Wow, did they give a details grade due to something they think they see...that is what I mean by NGC and their oddball nature...
or it's an XF and that shows you how little I know about grading these regardless of the 15 dates I own...

I received the coin this afternoon and here are a couple of USB microscope images; Looks like a scratch (too straight, not following grain boundaries and you can see the bottom) in the field, and a crack on the rim (jagged) I did not notice that the upper arrow shaft was incomplete before.

That old scratch shouldn't have hurt the grade (IMHO). Check out this JR-1 that sold last year on Teletrade. It has the telltale incomplete upper arrow shaft. http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot....0&lot=1348#nYour coin is quite nice for the grade. Is there any mint luster showing around the stars? I think it was net-graded 5 points for the scratch or a light cleaning. If there is mint luster present, it may have been net-graded 10 points (and shouldn't have been).

Nice bust dimes are hard to locate. Same for the quarter. I feel nice examples deserve their premium.

Quarters are SO much harder than any of the bust coins, except the very early draped bust cents.

I think that it is as nice in hand as the images and I am very pleased with this coin; Thanks for the comments!
