I agree with the Captain. I could easily see this being offered as F-12. Usually the "B" in "LIBERTY" is stronger, but the "E" more than makes up for it. To find any half with this much "Liberty" showing is a small victory, and one in which I am happy to celebrate.

How much would a common Barber, with full 'LIBERTY' showing, be valued at?
I have been after such a coin for some years now.

The color and somewhat splotchy toning suggests that this coin has been cleaned. I would say it has F-12 details. @sel_69l: A common date barber half with full Liberty would probably cost at least $30.

D0ubl3Eagle: Sukria. (Thankyou in Urdu!)
Because it is much harder to find a good one in Australia, a current value is very useful knowledge for me.

Quote: The color and somewhat splotchy toning suggests that this coin has been cleaned so when you have that look its not really considered mottling? Cleaning at some point creates that versus a more even mottle across the mirrors?

Buried? That would explain the blotchyness. I would not say this is worth $30 when it lists for around $22 in this condition.

I agree that the coin has probably been cleaned. The centers look abnormally bright and the blotchy color is consistent with retoning. F-12 details but would be valued lower than a similar piece with original surfaces. Would probably go $20-25 on ebay.

F-12, minor issues, but the nice overall look makes up for it.

Quote: so when you have that look its not really considered mottling? Cleaning at some point creates that versus a more even mottle across the mirrors? I have seen some coins that have been cleaned and have retoned in a manner somewhat similar to this one. From the ones that I have seen that have retoned with this mottled look, they tend to be a bit more uneven and unlike the more even mottled toning that is seen on coins that have come from mint sets. Quote: no hairline scratches so would is still be from cleaning? A coin that has been overdipped will not have much in the way of hairlines but the coin will have a lifeless even shine that is unnatural. Hairlines can be a sign of cleaning but not necessarily the only sign as some market acceptable problem free coins have hairlines. When they are excessive and don't look natural for the grade, then it can be a sign of cleaning.
