Thanks everyone for the information on the .20 coin.
The thing that makes me nervous because I am a new coiner is having someone send it away. What assurances do you have when you let it out of your site? Do I find and how do I find a reliable dealer to send it out for me.

First,

to the Forum!!

Second,

You have, potentially, a very valuable coin!

You're doing the right thing, learning all you can about this coin before doing anything with it!

Advice:

Do all you can to continue to preserve the coin in its present condition. Any attempt to "improve" it may/will cost you dearly.

Do not sell the coin until you have it certified.

Get it certified! PCGS, ANACS, and NGC are my recommendations to you (in that order of preference).

Good luck and keep us all posted on your progress!

Jim, I'm going to make a recommendation: if the coin is "raw" (not in any kind of packaging already), stop by your local hobby store (I use Hobby Lobby because it's all that exists around here), and pick up a pack of 2x2 flips. I don't know how big a 20 cent piece is, so compare it to a modern coin, then, when you find the coin it's the same size as/smaller than, purchase flips in that size. Seal it in a flip to keep it safe and keep off further fingerprints, dust, etc. until you can get it certified.
