Check this out guys....Sid Meiers Civilization http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...%2Caps%2C250I have played versions of this game for about 13 years now and I have always found it great fun. I would recommend getting the Civ 4 the complete edition. There are many great expansion packs included. A few created by people online. I was recently playing the RHYSE and FALL mod...heres a wiki for it.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhye's...CivilizationAny ways the game is a turn based strategy/ resource management game, in which the player can choose all the major civilizations of history and develop them. The player can win or loose by changing or maintaining the out come of history. The game is super fun, I am super fan and is a good way of not looking at the internet for ancient coins to spend money on.It has more then paid for itself over the years. If anyone does get it or have you can find me by the handle unstoppablenoob and we can play over the internet. Figure someone here might be interested. Have a look, pick it up and love it as I do. In one of my games I have brought all of Africa, Asia and Europe under the rule of the Pharaoh Ancientnoobahotep I. Edited by Ancientnoob 09/17/2012 7:38 pm

Oh yea in RHYSE he tries to keep it historically accurate, like if pick the ROMANS you enter the game after about a 5 minute wait and find our self on the Italian Penninsula, With Carthage to the asouth Greece to the East and Barbarians to the North. The victory conditions for the Romans are much harder then your imagine. I believe they are, Don't lose a city until after 500AD, Control the Historical area of the Roman empire by 150AD and I think the other one is complete the Pantheon by 100 AD. Great fun.
I bought civ 5 and they changed it and frankly it sucks, to a point not worth mentioning.

I'm glad I haven't gotten around to upgrading to 5 then. I have 4 and am about to go download me some historical add ons for it. I am very glad you posted this even though nobody else seems too fazed by it lol.

Sid Meiers Civilization II, for me, was a fantastic game. This was back in 1997, then the Internet became commercially available for the public around the same time, then an online community of Civ Fanatics came about. It was great being able to exchange ideas, to share modified Bitmap unit images to add to modified scenarios, and indeed, write our own scenarios. Loving ancient history, I made a large map of Asia Minor and the surrounding areas for a scenario about the First Crusade. I stopped playing Civ in 2001... I think my scenarios are still out there on the Civ Fanatics site. Hang on, let me check.... yes, see here: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2/dow...rios/ancientAge of Basilius and Age of Alexius made by me.

It took me an embarassing length of time to get that mod installed, but I am loving it so far. I read an intersting article not long ago about civilization 2, at least I think it was the 2nd one. Some guy had been playing a map for years and had been stuck in a stalemate for ten years of periodic playing. Here is one article on it, it is pretty funny how horrid his world got. http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/18/tech/...s/index.html

Wow! I think that is dedication, rather than addiction. I recall a thread on a Civ forum about "You know you've been playing Civ too long when..." with comments such as "you tell your children to go out and establish a city" !

Wow Dude played the game for 10 years, my friend and I have played a game for about 2 years on and off. We cant use nukes against one another due to the SDI, we both developed. This just ends up in the use of and loss of long range bombers and the use of infantry and mobile artillery in the vast jungle that divides our boarders on Pangaea. Got to love that game.

I've never tried playing someone online before. That sounds fun, no idea how to set it up though.

Nothus-you are not accepting email. I was hoping I could PM and we could set something up. Worse case I might have to call you to walk you through it. Its been a while, I think you have to set it up through game spy.

I too have spent far too many hours playing Mr Meiers Civilization. I think it peaked for me with 2 and 3, after that it became hard to manage 100+ city empires.
