hey there! I'm new to this site, and fairly new to coin collecting. I've always loved coins, but just recently I've started to actually buy them for inventments sake. I recently aquired a Morgan, and it was a pretty good shape, (bare with me here and don't flame me :\.....) but I wanted to make it a bit shinier....yeah I know cleaning coins is a HUGE no no. I know that now, and I knew that then, but I really wasn't thinking. my uncle is a big coin collector and told me that. I just forgot :( but luckily I didn't really scrub that hard and it doesn't look that bad to me, but I wanted you all's opinions. does this coin look ruined to you? if so it's okay, I got it just about for free, and I can use it as a pocket piece no problem, but if not i'd be glad to hear the news its work 40-50 bucks. I'm not too experienced but from what I've seen, that's not too bad, its not that shiny and I didn't completely remove the original luster. I'm a moron :( anyway let me know, thanks!

sorry they came out sideways, its the iphone when you email photos it rotates them for some odd reason.

Well, to make it quick and short, your Morgan dollar is an extremely common date, 1921, and having cleaned it moderately from what I can see, the value is basically melt at this point. Your looking at a $28 coin at this point.
Here is my first and last flame I'll throw. Don't ever clean your coins.

Take solace in the fact that you only cleaned the single most common Morgan dollar(1921), it could have been a much more valuable date with hundreds of dollars removed by a harsh cleaning. Carrying it around as a pocket piece will be an excellent way to lessen the harshness of the cleaning.

No harm here, it's not like you polished up a highly desirable coin!

Just don't do this:!

I agree, you could carry it around in your pocket and maybe get rid of the damage you have done to it. It will drop a couple grades but it will still be worth what it is now and will be market acceptable to a collector and bullion collector alike and may actually net a couple more dollars
