Tough. My ultimate favorite is the 186x New Brunswick/Nova Scotia coppers. But, if you're going to be picky, then:

a) 1967 dollar.
b) 2012 HMS Shannon $2 circulation coin. I'm a big fan of this coin. It's a model for how they should design $2 coins.

I'm very partial to the 1949 dollar with the Mathew depicted. Thomas Shingles had a first rate artistic sensibility to go with his technical skills.

There's a good article about him in the September 2012 issue of the Canadian Numismatic Journal.

I agree, the 2012 HMS Shannon Toonie is a great design.

Yah, I also think that the 2012 HMS Shannon $2 coin is a total winner ... I bought an uncirculated 5-pack, hoping that the ship-design will draw a slight premium in the future (if history repeats itself, the good ol' coins & bills with some sort of a ship-design always seem to be crowd favourites!!)

There are so many great designs, but the '49 dollar came to my mind first. It was the centennial coinage that got me interested in coins though and Colville is one of my all time favourite artists.

@t_y: Don't worry, that's the way I understood your comment originally. :-)

@spp-ottawa: Yes, admittedly I like the design because it reminds me of her more so than in and of itself. But I still like it.
