In the pre-1968 world, my favorite design is the 1935 dollar. I love the classic reverse and the obverse is the single best obverse of any Canadian coin - period! Close second is the reverse of the 1967 dollar.

agreed George V is my favorite too. I also think the reverse design of the pre 1968 50 cent pieces was the best we ever had.

I'm with Senex for the obverse at least. A one-off for Canadian coinage, the 1935 has a portrait by Percy Metcalfe, as opposed to every other Canadian KGV coin that features the familiar one by E. B. MacKennal. Reverses are another matter. For a repeated circulation issue I'd have to go with many other collectors and say the Canadian coat of arms on the the 50c. I have a slight preference for the 1959-1966 design, although they don't exactly connote value! Also partial to many of our silver dollar reverses, namely the '49, '58, and '64.

I agree that the 1959-66 half reverse is a nice one but I still prefer the Voyageur reverse. It really reflect Canadian history.

Quote: I still prefer the Voyageur reverse I like the Voyageur as well, and was really only thinking from an aesthetic point of view, and not so much the significance of the design. I like so many of our coin designs that it might be more efficient to talk about the ones I don't like!

The 1958 dollar's totem pole design is a favorite of mine.

I also like the dynamic image of the portrait on '35 obverse... here's a few photos of my nicest one :) Take care, and Have a Great Day! Cam

1992 Yukon sesquicentennial 25-cent coin, the reverse is of the Kaskawulsh glacier, view from Observatory Mountain., Kluane National Park. The silver proof is especially nice.

Come on guys, is there really such a thing as an ugly canadian coin? although some of the modern nclt But seriously... my favorite designs are the 1967 canadian cent reverse, and the voyageur dollar reverse and am I crazy for liking the Pedery-Hunt, and Blunt obverses more than the Makluof, and Rank-Broadley obverses?

I never knew about it until it showed up in a cash drawer in the 70's, and it was my birth year!
