Quote: I just can't bring myself to consign any of these coins to my pocket without some sort of protection. It was hard for me too, but I loved worn coins as well as shiny ones so if a coin is not horribly valuable it should be fine. The owner of my local coin shop has had a 1976 1 oz Krugerrand pocket piece for 15 years and it is maybe F12, so its possible to have an expensive pocket piece. I couldn't do that though because if I lost it I would freak.

I carry around a Peace dollar and have done so since the 70s. It sure is shiny!

I just started carrying an 1887 Seated Liberty dime, but it had to stay in a protective case. I like it too much

Found another use for my pocket piece just the other day. I carry a Venezuela 5 Bolivaire 1977 coin. I was at a poker tournament when our table could not find the dealer chip in the set...out came my pocket piece and it acted as the dealer chip through out the game. Every one enjoyed looking at it and asking questions. I may have even inspired some new coin collectors... who knows.

I don't have my own pocket piece but I did hand engrave this one for my daughter as a good luck piece. It is a worn Canadian 1967 quarter. She liked the cat.

It was 1974, my freshman year in high school. In metals shop class I drilled a hole in a dateless buffalo. Our shop teacher was head of the H.S. coin club. Had he seen me do this, I think he would have freaked. I carried that on my key ring for about 20 years. I took it off the key ring and gave it an early retirement. After reading this post, I think I'll call it out of retirement and put it back on my key ring. But first, I have to find it.

@SamBoyYellowSub - The One Crown coin is fantastic! First time I've seen that particular one. I have added it to my spreadsheet of future finds.

This is crazy. This thread had me going through my house like a mad man trying to find my worn, holed, dateless Buffalo nickel. Like I mentioned above, this thing had been on my key ring for years. I think it got retired when I joined the USCG and for a while, I didn't carry keys. I just found the nickel in a box of my old childhood coins. Like they say, I found it in the last place I looked. Well, it's back on the key ring for hopefully longer than another 20 years. Thanks for bringing back many fond memories but also, thanks for keeping me up part of the night trying to figure out were a worthless coin was located. Lucy, I'm home
