Am I reading the postings correctly, that the US Mint is issuing a 2012 S circulating ATB Quarter? This would be in addition to the silver and mint issues? Are these only available in rolls from the US Mint?

Yes they are doing S mints as well this year that you do have to order from the mint. You can get rolls or bags but they arent being sent to banks or circulated

How are either these bags or rolls different from the 3 coin sets that mint is currently selling to collectors? To my limited understanding these coins are the one and the same.
The "S" mintmark coin of the 3 coin set is uncirculated and both the rolls and bags of "S" mintmarks are also uncirculated. So why would it be necessary to collect a coin from either the roll or bag?
I still don't understand. Anybody have a diffinative answer to this question? Thanks.....................

ghostrider, the S coin in the 3-coin set is a proof coin. So there are 3 S mint issues for each ATB Quarter this year... proof, silver proof, and uncirculated. So the 3-coin set includes P, D, and S(proof).

To clarify the ATB issues, this year there are FIVE collectible varieties for each design, making 25 different quarters in all for 2012. In 2010 and 2011 there were only four per design. There's been no word from the mint if the circulation quality S quarters will be offered next year, or as a single year one-time offering to celebrate the 75th year of operating the current San Francisco mint building. This is why these quarters were supposedly offered by the Mint as a collectible in the first place, as they saw how successful the sales of the non-circulating 2012 Presidential & Sac dollars were.

So I wonder when we can expect W quarters? Would make it a smooth 30 quarters annually, and why not. Those Danscos will be huge before long. Maybe a gold strike on top of things?

maybe they could start issuing 90% silver bu ones as well. Oh and we could have another commemorative series on top of that. and oh yeah they could reopen the carson city and new orleans mints as well. then we could have 60-70 different quarters minted every year.

While you are reopening old mints, don't forget about Charlotte and Dahlonega as well. Might as well go for the jugular.

Oh, I forgot. These could be gold plated (or maybe even 90% gold!).

And as long as they are making them just for collectors they could actually do that, plating them I mean.

Oh, come ON, guys. You don't think they should open a temporary mint in the Capital of each state for a special commem issue of that state's ATB? Bunch of grannies we've got here, to not think of that. (I should probably note I'm joking, before someone smacks me with a madhammer. Or a modhammer.)

I think that the temporary mint should be in the particular state most unusual named city.
Hell, Michigan Two Egg, Florida I---------e, Pennsylvania
I'm sure there are other unusual named cities in other states.

Ghostrider, why not King of Prussia, PA? And here in AZ we could put it southwest of Williams--in the middle of Nowhere.
