Hi all,
Below are photos of the 1997 Bailiwick of Guernsey £1 coin that I have. I'm trying to figure out if it's gold or silver, or a mixture of both. It might seem that the difference should be obvious, but even when I unscrew the protective capsule for a closer look, I can't be sure. I have gold coins and silver coins and they look like gold coins and silver coins. This one seems silver, but it has a definite golden lustre about it. Perhaps it's a mixture?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that it is a lightly toned silver coin. It looks just like the silver proof sets at my local coin store.

As far as I can tell, this coin was only struck in proof, and only in sterling silver. NGC database page.

So any yellowish colouration is going to be just a thin film of tarnish - or "toning", if you prefer.

Krause lists it as silver, with a value of $32.50. Actual Silver Weight is 0.2825 oz. Fineness of 0.9250. Mintage is 15,000. It should weign 9.5 grams. Issue is proof only, KM#73. As Sap stated the yellowishness is likely toning.
