So I got this ad in the mail... "66 Commemorative Quarters from 1999 to 2011" from the littleton mint. The asking price is $16.50 and there's no shipping and handling which just seems to good to be true. 66 * 0.25 = $16.50.
I'm pretty skeptical of the littleton mint but I dunno... I can't quite find the angle for this ad. They're advertising optional display folders as well for $3.50 each (which I wouldn't get) so I suppose it could be a front for that but I dunno... doesn't seem like they'd be making a killing with those.
Maybe they figure that once they got your address they'll try to tempt you with increasingly outlandish offers in catalogs? I dunno. All in all, I'm just pretty skeptical.

As far as I can tell, Littleton specials are legitimate. Presumably, they do this in very limited volume to get new customers for their normally overpriced inventory

Its because once you order from them they start sending you things that you didnt order which you are responsible for paying for if you dont return them.

yawnmoth - I responded to that AD and received some nice quarters 4 bonus 2009 uncirculated cents. So they actually sent me $16.54 for $16.50. I also responded to the $20 Presidential dollar deal, the $8 Sacagawea dollar deal (2009 - 2012 P&D uncirculated set) and the latest America the Beautiful Quarter deal all at face value with bonus cents. basebal21 said it right, they will send you coins on approval on your order, but they do provide return postage on the first shipment. When you send back the first order tell them that you want to be removed from their "coins on approval" service and you will no longer receive coins on future order. At least I don't... The will probably send a sampling of $50 in cost of modern uncirculated coins for approval. Prices are high for these, which is how they can send these coins at face value out. I figure that you can't go wrong with uncirculated coins at face, or even under face when you consider credit card cash back and the bonus cents. If you want to you could just spend them and not lose a thing..

Thanks yawnmoth. I'm probably already on their mailing list now because of the at cost Eagle offer they have (code 2JR400) so I figured this one wouldn't hurt too. Some of my State Quarters are circulated so this should help me clean up my existing set.

That is a good deal. Any idea how I can get this deal, I did not get any email from them.

I didn't get an email either - just a snail mail ad (I'm a coupon clipper so I always flip through snail mail to see if I can save money at restaurants or whatever lol).
The code is 2MK401.

I have heard horror stories from littleton mint. People saying that they sent hundreds of dollars of items which they would not accept back and must be paid for. I asked about them before on here as well. I got a lot of negative feedback about them.

All you have to do is use the Search tab and type in Littleton. They have that thing about sending stuff to people and telling them they must pay for them or pay to return them. A Link was recently posted as to the laws about this. Can't find it now but was a Link to the United States Postal Inspection Service. Basically if someone sends you stuff that you didn't ask for, consider it a gift. Just one of the problems with them. They prey on people not knowing this.

From my experience I have not had any issues (knock on wood).. Read the fine print, call them or email them before you place an order so you know exactly what you are signing up for. That is what I did and all worked well (again, knock on wood...).
I have placed 2 of these face value orders and not had issues. I also have 2 orders pending (recent orders, hence he knock on wood). I don't even receive as little as an email from them about specials, much less $100's of dollars in coins without asking..

Except when you order from them with these promotions and such youve entered into their program through the fine print. If youve never had any contact with them that works but as soon as you order from them you are on the hook for future things until you cancel

Is Littleton Mint just a company name, or are they really a private minting business?

It is Littleton Coin Company. There is no Littleton Mint.

What's the code for the Presidential dollar deal? I got the coins today incidentally. Overall a great deal I think! It's a little funny though... they shipped it via UPS and to return it the prepaid shipping label is for USPS lol. The package included four of their "coins on approval". Those were a rip off. $20.00 for a 1964 silver quarter... The other prices were $5.00 for a proof State Quarter and $1.00 for two uncirculated quarters. That said, I'm a little disappointed the Wisconsin D quarter didn't have an extra leaf :(
