This is a normal London & Newcastle Tea Co shop token or check dated 1876.
Obverse: Legend on three lines in
centre and around periphery: "THROUGHOUT NORTH OF ENGLAND & SCOTLAND * SOUTH BRIDGE EDINBURGH 1876".
Reverse: Legend on five lines in centre and around periphery: "THE LONDON & NEWCASTLE TEA COMPANY'S * ?lb CHECK NOT TRANSFERABLE J. A. Game ARDILL LEEDS". Straight milled edge.
There's an R counterstamped on the reverse and I've not seen them counterstamped before. Is this normal ?
Does the counterstamp been redeemed ?
