I picked this up on a whim at the local coin shop a couple weeks ago. Ancients are my main thing so this is not my area of expertise.

Anybody see anything obviously suspicious about this dollar? I know the pics aren't the greatest.

Thanks in advance.

Take it to your nearest dealer who may have another Trade dollar, and do a comparison ring tone test together.

Weight and diameter are obvious tests.

I doubt if a forger would bother to present a tradie with this much wear.

I don't see anything that is jumping out at me. Does Lady Liberty have have 4 fingers on the olive branch hand? Don't count the thumb.

It is fairly worn in that area but appears to be 4 fingers.

The rims, dentils and the stems of the wheat look wrong. I'm not sure it's real. Hope I'm wrong.

Wonder why the reverse, the date and "IN GOD WE TRUST" don't show the same amount of wear. It's also interesting how the water stops short of her legs.

I'll look for something with this same wear pattern.
