Hello all,

For a while now I have been hoping to get my hands on a Morgan dollar. Well, finally I found one and won the auction, only to get scared after reading about all the fakes out there. Before the auction ended I wrote to the seller and asked if he could confirm the weight. (I haven't heard back yet) but was hoping in the meantime if someone out there who knows a bit about these could have a quick look over this and tell me if it looks all good cosmetically..
Any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks,
Al

Looks fine to me and the risk of counterfeits for a lower-grade, common date like this is probably very small. It looks like a decent and original circulated coin and should grade about VG-10. The weight for an uncirculated Morgan will be around 26.7 grams but I would guess that a coin with this much wear will have lost about 0.5-1.0 grams.

What other kinds of coin do you collect?

Hey Jaobler,
Cheers for the prompt reply and for the welcome too!
I was thinking that it is probably genuine seeing as it is nothing special, but thought it was best to double check with someone that knows more than me all the same.
I'm pretty new to collecting, but I'm finding it to be a fascinating hobby and hope to get more into it. At the moment the collection is a bit all over the place. I have a couple old Queen Victoria shillings from Britain (1887's) some silver Canadian coins (quarters and dimes) a couple Kennedy halfs, some Czechoslovakian communist era coins, a roman coin and some silver bullion coins. Nothing impressive but I am learning a lot and enjoying it all the same.
Thanks for the help mate.

Faking the wear is a lot harder than faking the coin. This one looks good.
