Picked this up at a coin show today. I think I picked the best one out of the bunch and did okay. My photos aren't the best but hopefully they are good enough to make some accurate appraisals.

I noticed that as well when making my selection. It is on the coin not the holder but it was still better looking than some of the other choices where there was a distracting mark on her face on all of them.

I'm sure it has something to do with the strike of the coin. I know these are notorious for weak strikes so maybe there was some sort of weakness or stress there when it was being struck? It would be nice to hear from someone much more knowledgeable than myself on this.

I bought it for the nice luster and eye appeal. The grading was just a bonus to me. The coin has sentimental value to me as it is the same coin my Nana received from her father that he carried and she now carries. It was his birth year. While I will most likely inherit that coin some day I wanted to have something in nice shape to share that connection with them now.

I'm going with MS64 myself. My initial gut was MS66 because of the fields. My main concern, other than a mark on the cheek, is that area on the wing. Is that a bag mark/scratch/ect..or is that the beginning of a die break....ala the 1924 broken wing variety?

The photo is just not clear enough for me to see if it is incuse or recessed.

If you are talking about the mark on the wing just left of the centrr of the coin that mark is raised. Not sure if that helps. Never heard of the variety you mentioned but upon some quick googling this mark does not seem to match what I have seen. My mark goes slightly from right to left when looking top to bottom while all the photos I saw show the mark in that spot going from left to right when looking top to bottom. I'm not sure if there are other variations of this or if they should all appear the same.

The smaller mark near the leg where the die break would end appears to be recessed but it is difficult to be certain through the holder because the mark is barely visible.

It makes a difference Josh because then that mark is not PMD and does not affect the grade as it shifts from defect to variety. You know I have a broken wing. I guess I could have gotten it out and checked first. You might post this on the VAM board and see what they say about the die break.

Cool I'll have to do that later I'm running out the door for work now. Is that sort of thing not indicated by the TPG if the service isn't requested originally?

Correct, if you don't indicate you want it;and are paying for it, then they just grade it on it's own merits. Without noticing any errors or varieties.

That's what I thought. I'll do a crosspost now to get some of the VAM experts opinions.

could be VAM 11A ....Not sure of any break progression, meaning is this the start, and VAM 5a is the farthest among the breakage..looks like the known VAM 11a

I think 11A is spot on. The photos on VAM world look like someone took a photo of my coin precisely down to the location, length, width, and direction. That's really cool, thank you!

So I guess my next question is does this add value to the coin and is it worth getting it attributed?

I would think MS-63 at best. A bunch of chatter and a flat strike on the Hair. PCGS and ANACS ...MS-62 to 62 + maybe a MS-63 in NGC plastic. BTW Nice wing break!

I will guess they gave it a MS-63.
