I was on ebay and came across a seller that over strikes his coins. Anyway the thing I noticed was how much people are willing to pay for these. His ad clearly states everything but does anyone think they are worth that much or more? And is it right to make those, I could see someone buying them and trying to sell them as real coins to another person that doesn't know much.

He also lurks about from time to time from what I understand. :-) His work always provokes strong, but mixed reactions.

(I'm a fan, but then again I collect replicas, counterfeits and altered coins. :-) )

I can see how some of them look really nice but it just seems like to much of a gamble if there would be a market for them in the future. However if just for collecting that would be good.

I think the whole DC thing has really gotten out of hand about minting "coins that should not exist" with the correct designs on the correct metal composition. I think it is right up there with the counterfeiters but he is doing it through a loophole that makes it kind of legal. I have no qualm with DC himself as I have talked to him many times on this forum when he was active but that was way before he started all this stuff he is pumping out now. But I have expressed my feelings about his business plan before and really don't want to stay up all night because I get all worked up again over it

brian - that was my original thought in starting this thread that these are real coins but fake = counterfeit

I've been to the local flea market a few times. One of the dealers there sells some his coins as "replicas using the same dies." I know better than to buy these, and I hold my tongue for various reasons, but I wonder now if those are Daniel Carr made coins that that dealer is selling.

I think DC spends a lot of time in the gray area just shy of stepping over the line of breaking ebay's rules. I have no idea why anyone would spend that much for the equivalent of a silver round that is only 90% as opposed to bullion-quality. Just my opinion.
