A lovely coin where the wear doesn't detract from the coin.
I think the obverse description should read "Chimaera moving to left on ground line, its right forepaw raised, a wreath above, ΣE below chimaera".
I cannot comment on accuracy of the SNG Spencer attribution but think the following attributions are accurate:-
BMC 57; Babelon, Traité 776; BCD Peloponnesos 218; SNG Cop 48
Congrats on a great coin. Martin

Great coin, it has good appeal I wouldn't worry that it isn't mint state it is 2300+ years old and it deserves to have been handled. Really you can't take anything away from it; its a beauty. Maybe I will sell a kidney and get one of those too :)

Hmmmm, well A-noob? ... man, I just don't know? You having "my" coin as "your" screen-saver is a bit like you having my wife's photo on your desk at work ... ummm, it'd probably be a bit *wrong/awkward* ... => but thanks for the coin-compliment, dude!!

I went to a coin show yesterday and upgraded my old hemidrachm (who wants the old one?). The new one still is worn but I got it because it has an I infront of the dove. Your stater has an N. What does that mean? My coin weighs 2.71g. Your coin weighs 12.03g. I is the Greek numeral for 10 while N is 50. Your coin weighs about four and a half times mine making me curious if the denominations are marked? The I could also be what is left of SI but these have the city name on the other side. This will require research. Feel free to help with my education.

dougsmit => very nice hemidrachm!! (your "goat" is more defined than mine) ... Very interesting to know that the "N" on my coin refers to 50 (thanks for that info) ... My coin has sigma-epsilon in exergue (almost totally worn away) ... Your coin has sigma-iota in exergue, correct?

Steve, I think your new coin is absolutely ugly. You need to get rid of it quickly to stop it form disgracing your collection. Email me privately and I will send you my address so you can mail it to me to dispose of for you.

BTW - the next one will be just as ugly - whatever it will be - so go ahead and send me that one too.

Quote: I went to a coin show yesterday and upgraded my old hemidrachm (who wants the old one?) Well, I wanted the old one with which Doug was trading up and we struck a deal. The coin arrived today, and I just wanted to share it with the gang. I would also note that it's so much nicer trading within the group than buying from the unknown world. I'm very pleased with the transaction and the coin. Thanks to Doug for this opportunity.
