There's this book: http://www.alaskacoinexchange.com/A...d%20Book.htm but as I recall about a year or two ago, a really nice book had come out. It was rather expensive but it was considered to be THE reference. I can't seem to find any links for you, though.
Sufficed to say there are a LOT of counterfeits, purity wasn't very standardized and they are fascinating little pieces of history.
