Not thing interested in last show (June 2012).
IMO, deals are not that great, my local dealer have more better deals. Saw they have Glass bee, dino. Toronto map coin. Prices are higher than secondary market.
Most important. I hate those robot-like security guys. They always stare at people, as if someone gonna rob the show. Those idiots.
It makes me think this show is for those sellers to deal and exchange collectibles between them.
Only 2 or 3 sellers in the show are friendly. Most of them, they don't care if you want to buy.

Quote: Most important. I hate those robot-like security guys. They always stare at people, as if someone gonna rob the show. Those idiots. This comment shows a real lack of understanding on what goes on at coin shows. It is an unfortunate reality that an alarming number of coin shows experience one or more thefts while they are open. Having been involved in the staging of a show for 15 years, I have, unfortunately, had first-hand experience with this. The security personnel you've labeled as "idiots" are there to act as a deterrent to potential theft. Dealers are robbed at their tables, while unloading/loading their coins at the beginning/end of a show and even while driving home from a show. Thieves can be very creative when it comes to ways to deceive and steal from a dealer. Yes, some thefts are the crude "grab and run" variety but many are far more subtle and result in significant losses for dealers. At the show I'm involved with, our security personnel have observed suspicious behavior and have caught would-be thieves as they have tried to leave the building. They perform a very valuable service. So, "Yes!" someone may in fact be looking to "rob the show" - it is in all of our best interests to support the efforts of the show security team rather than insult them and the work they are doing.

You are right. That is the first coin show I attend. I am a newbie. I went there will my boss. We worked in the downtown office. She also feel unpleasant right at the entrance. Not even a "welcome words" or a smile.
Here, I talk about a particular coin show that I attended last June. About some particular guards that we met. Not all of them. I see your status location is in US. Have you ever visited last Toronto coin expo show in June? How can you judge my experiences? If you'd never visit that show.
I agree they have do their jobs. But common, don't treat all like a theft. Most of visitors (over 99%) are real buyers, consumers, customers. We need a pleasant, friendly show to attend, to shop. With professional and friendly staffs.

This show will be better than the June show - the June show saw bad luck with a nasty rainstorm that flooded Union Station and paralyzed downtown Toronto on the friday afternoon... Lots more collectors are coming to this show, from the rumours in the air...

On top of people stealing coins inside, robbing people outside, following people home to rob them, they are also scanning pockets of people to get there credit card info!! As well probably pick pocketing those that are carrying large amounts of cash. While the honest people are looking at coins and conversing the security is hopefully looking at the odd ball creeps. If they start breaking their concentration to say hello and hand out hugs they aren't doing their job. These shows are targeted by thieves because of the high amount of $$$$$ involved, and they are very good at knowing who to go after.

commems absolutely right.
The security stuff are not the servants of the general public. They suppose to look at people and through the people in the way, that every person knows that he or she is under observation every moment. This behaviour could prevent some rob and also gives to the people feel of protection. So, in the events like this, the security guards will not merge with the public, but will show up themselves.
All above from the personal experience.

Hi folks, I need your advise, please:
Can not go to the show on Saturday (another event in Toronto), but free on Friday. From your experience - is it worth to go there on Friday? I think, although it is first day of the show, but since there a common weekend starts on Saturday, the Saturday will be more attractive.
Appreciate your advice.

@SilverLynx: Definitely check out the show on Friday! Many collectors actually prefer to go to a show the first day it is open to increase their chances of finding popular pieces before they are sold to other collectors!

I'm a YN going to my first show... As I only have a few hours, which dealers would you recommend for Ancients and US in any metal and World coins in silver. I'm definently checking out Sherwood Park Pennies and ANE.
