I know the copper cent comes in the silver version of the 2012 proof set. Does anyone know if it comes in the 25th anniversary loonie set or any other (cheaper) set?

It is copper plated steel in both 2012 specimen sets and uncirculated set.

If you are just wanting the penny, you could get both magnetic and non-magnetc cheaper than in a set. I bought both types from here, and they were all flawless specimens, even though the picture looks a little scratched.

Noah

I think he's looking for the actual copper composition not the copper plated that you find in circulation.

I didn't know that they still made full copper one. Where would you get one?

It sounds like in the regular silver proof set. And possibly only that one.
In the special edition proof set the 1 cent piece is silver/rose gold

That set also has the nickel composition in all the coins even the 50 cent piece. That makes this set with the lower mintage (40,000) vs the steel 50 cent pieces which 125,000 are minted.

Thanks all. I will go buy the set. Much better than paying the $70 that someone was trying to get for one in an ICCS flip on ebay!

If you are breaking up the set for the penny, bring the leftover pieces to Coin Expo - I know someone will want to buy the Twoonie, and I would not mind getting the loon dollar....

Just received this proof set for my birthday. I wasn't very happy with it. I was after the copper 1 cent but had assumed the rest would have been silver like all years since 1996 but it's not. Only the dollar is silver. I'm curious as to why they did this after 15 years of all silver coins in a proof set. Is it only because of the special 2012 proof set that issued or is this the trend for future proof sets?

This might just be the new trend. Then again it could be a marketing test. Let's wait for 2013 to see, shall we?

I couldn't believe that the price was almost the same as the full silver sets. I hope it's a one time deal.
