Just got what I think is my first skunk box of pennies.
Got a $25 box at my bank today, the box was a brinks box with those plastic wrapped rolls. I sorted through the first 2 rolls, and was surprised to get no copper whatsoever. Opened up another 10 rolls from various spots in the box, no copper.
I don't think I'm going to sort the rest... I figure it will be easier to deposit the wrapped rolls at my dump bank. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Someone else may have sorted through for copper and put the rest in the box you got.

Some are brown rims, the pennies are definitely circulated and from a number of years. I thought it was very odd as well, being bank wrapped rolls in plastic. The only thing I can think of is if someone had sorted a very large number of pennies and deposited them, and they all somehow got re-rolled together at the bank?

While I have never had a pure zinc Brinks box, it wouldn't surprise me that it can happen. I know that I dump $50-$200 in zincs a week depending on volume into a coin counter, I also know someone else uses the same coin counter and has dumped $100 on various weeks from conversations with bank tellers. I'm sure those pennies go back to Brinks to be re-boxed, if $300 (6 bags) in pennies get dumped into a bin at brinks to be re-boxed and don't get mixed well with other pennies, you could have many boxes of solid zincs or close to solid zincs in plastic wrap.

Happens around here frequently. A few months ago I bought three $25 Brinks boxes in a row that contained no copper (OK, one of them had THREE copper cents in it; that's pretty much the same as none). They were from three different banks too. I do know there is somebody about forty miles south of here that dumps copper cents on ebay in ridiculously large amounts, so in order to try not to get any of the Zincolns that he is dumping back into the system I try to avoid boxes. I go to a number of branches and buy $10 worth from each branch, all the while asking for CWR's (customer rolls). I have been averaging 15 or so coppers per roll by doing it that way.

The only way I would get a "box" is if I were looking to hit solid date rolls on the off chance. CWR's are far better. Once had $10 worth of 99% copper rolls. Another time hit $2 worth of solid rolls of wheats from CWR's. Everytime I get brinks rolls they are low on copper - 5-8 per roll.. I agree with coppernickeldaddy 100%!! CWR's baby!

The boxes from my 2 banks are machine-wrapped in paper wrappers. Haven't had a total skunk box yet, but the last few boxes have been running at less than half the amount of coppers and wheats that I've been accustomed to.
