I think the coin meets the criteria for a 66 in the categories of marks, luster and eye appeal but not quite in strike. For that reason, I don't think I could go above a MS-65+ for this coin. A very nice looking coin BTW!

GRADES of MS 65 and very much above, are seriously looked at for there STRIKE QUALITY...NOT ALL but many of the New Orleans are some what Flat Struck... meaning many times the OBV ear details are missing, also as well the legg's are flat and the toe nails have no definition...the Breast feathers are also lacking...in definition...Soly due to the minting process...only the Graders no, how many ,. as they see thousands of examples for the year and mint, if the minting process for this year...all have these lack of detail....I see no faults on the coin as a whole or distracting marks..
thinking MS 65 for the lack of detail, but could see it go higher as I have seen no excamples better than this one for details of these portions of grading points,, anxious to see what the grade was given...I have a 1886 wth no flaws but received an MS64 grade due to the lack of strike details...lets see what the graders have decided...I hope its high...

I think it's gorgeous. Flat strike or not, I think it has a good shot at 66

MS 65 for sure, but I don't know if PCGS will give an allowance to New Orleans for the weak strike...so it could go 66...

Canadian Banknotes, Sorry for the late response. The reason I saw an MS64 is:
The 1883-O is well known for minimal bagmarks and great luster. The 1883-O also comes in a wide variety of strikes, both excellent and poor. I see this coin as a below average to poor strike. If I were to buy or sell this coin I would only pay or sell at MS64 maybe 64+ prices, but I would really have to see something more than I see now. I really can't see this as having a CAC sticker because of the strike issue. With this being said it is a VERY BEAUTIFUL coin.
Cheers, Erik
