I'm needing some help with this one - if I go by LIBERTY on the shield, it won't get out of the VG range, right? But the overall detail would suggest a little better grade...not alot, but a little better than VG. Can I get your opinions on this one? Much appreciated.

I think it is VG. Does it have a very slight bend to it that may have caused the unusual wear around Liberty?

The obverse detail (other than "LIBERTY") suggests a near VF coin. The reverse looks F12 to me.

I was never big on using one diagnostic to determine the grade of a coin. Every coin is unique and yours looks Fine-12 to me.

i'd like to see a different shot of the obverse...i cant tell if its the lights but that rub in the middle of the shield is interesting...it might be a very old cleaning that caused that...the rest of the surface has since gotten patina back

right now I would venture to give this an F details w/ obverse damage

i'd like to know the attribution and I will take a look at my greer book tonight and see if I cant match it up...

I'm not good with grading these at all, but I think for F-12 all of LIBERTY must show. Great coin and thanks for sharing. Congrats!

I think it might make F-15.

No, the coin doesn't appear to be bent - not to the naked eye anyway. I want to think it just experienced honest wear from circulation.
My other early Seated dimes (with the slanted shield) all show the same type of wear across the shield, scroll, and LIBERTY to one extent or another. I can't post another scan of the coin because I still don't have a decent printer/scanner - I used the seller's photos for the original post.
I, too, think it just might rate a Fine grade if submitted - 'course, the value of the coin doesn't justify the expense of sending it in.
Thanks for your responses.
