I recently purchased a small bunch of 1923 Peace dollars (3 to be exact from each of the mints) that appear to be better than MS 60. They were encapsulated by an organization called "National Collector's Mint". I really was wondering how the pricing that Numismedia exhibits are in comparision to real world prices.

I am of the opinion that if their pricing is accurate and that based upon some of the prices that I have paid that I am either a better negotiator than I thought I was, or the shop owner likes me and is giving me good prices, or Numismedia prices as shown on their web site could be on the high side. I'd like to believe that option one is the true answer, but I suspect that option 3 is more accurate. Not for a minute do I believe that although I'm the best person that I know that option 2 does not enter as any sort of reasonable answer.

Numis prices are nothing more than a guide. They're generally fairly accurate but at any given time you can find those items for above and sometimes below the prices. Generally anything encased by some third party that's not a top TPG like in this case will drive the price down. Even if its just a holder and nothing more there's still a stigma too it that will lower the price from even an air tite. You could have gotten lucky its also possible you may be over grading them sine we all look at our own coins more favorable then some one else would. Whatever the reason congrats on the good deal

Just had a look at Numismedia - something I don't do very often - and I'm pretty much on board with them up to about MS63, at which point they tend to get enthusiastic for the more common issues. Based on your indication that they're all Mint State, albeit pretty common, I'd be happy with a price around or just over $300 for them.

Keep in mind, anything in National Collector's Mint packaging was owned by someone who has no clue whatsoever about the value of coins. No doubt that dealer made $100 on the sale, at the price I quoted.

When I purchased these coins I automatically considered them to be on a par with raw coins that looked nice. I had no idea what the "National Collector's Mint" providence is (and still don't).

I bought the coins because they look good, had a nice looking case (similiar to a US mint case), and I didn't have to spend anything to protect the coins. I was not expecting their brag of MS 60 to bear fruitation (but it would be nice). The coins are very nice looking and so that in the end is why I purchased them at what I considered a fair price as shown by (124) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed .com. At the very least I can take them out of their holders and place them in my Dansco album. This is something that I may yet do.

National Collector's Mint is a business that sells coins to the general public. I kind of think its a good idea to be skeptical or avoid any company that purports to be a Mint that isn't, or purport's to be a national this or that. Another one that comes to mind is the New York Mint- they offer silver and gold coins and market over the radio.

The typical Peace dollar that's BU should be about MS-63, especially for common dates.
