I was at the coin shop today to buy one of the commemorative dollars they have been setting aside for me and found myself with a little extra cash so I thought it would be fun to find a true filler for my 7070.

This fun little gem cost me just $2 (I had been looking at some g and ag Half Dimes for fun fillers until this beaut caught my eye)

Its an 1818 Large Cent and the history behind it to get that worn is just so much fun. When I replace it for a nicer coin for my 7070 I will pass this little piece on to my little boy.

Coins like that always make me wonder what they would say if they could talk. Where have they been? Who carried them? Did they ever end up in a gum ball machine?

I have always had a special place in my collection for honestly worn circulated coins ... nice example.

Yea when was the last time you saw a modern cent get circulated so much that it wore down that far. Back in the 1800's a cent was worth something and those things circulated and got used over and over again just cool to see one that was used that much. Now days you won't even find a wheat back penny that worn down. I always wondered what it would be liked to collect coins in the 1880's or the 1950's. Can you imagine what you could have pulled out of change in the 1880's large cents and Half Cents and bust quarters and dollars. Or even the 50's with Indian Head cents and Buffalo nickels and barber and maybe even the occasional standing liberty coin or even maybe a large cent you never know.
