A two headed Dollar? You inadvertently posted the obverse twice. Seriously, it is very possible that this is a copy/replica/fake and should be authenticated by a reputable Third Party Grader. If the coin is real it deserves to be "protected" in something other than being in a 2x2.

Grab a magnet and see if it is "attracted" to it. Not necessarily a proof positive method, but a good start. I have several "replicas" from China which are not magnetic.

A genuine 1802 is a very valuable coin.

I'm not an expert on dollars but there are many members of this forum who are dollar experts. I'm sure you'll get a more qualified response than mine, but in my opinion the first thing I saw was maybe there's something strange with the date.

It looks suspicious to me. The color just doesn't look right, especially on the reverse. The 0 in the date looks misshapen.

Do you have a way to accurately weigh it? A genuine one weighs 26.96 grams with a diameter of 39-40mm. I would suspect this one will be significantly underweight.

I'm hardly an expert on draped bust dollars, but I have a good eye for dates and styles used--I collect overdates. I compared the above coin to a dozen certified "wide date" examples, and the digit styles just don't look right--particulary the style of the "1" and "2". The only way to buy this coin is certified.

the date itself gives it away based on what DV is showing...

Just to throw down with everyone else, aye this looks like a counterfeit. Also it's admittedly a pretty good counterfeit, as far as counterfeits for these go. I can see the edge lettering and everything is in the right place, but the denticles, the reverse letting and the date are enough of a red flag for reasonable doubt.

Agreed with Steve Caruso, in that this is a pretty decent counterfeit. Unfortunately, it has a Wide Date without the 1802/1 overdate, making it (based on the date alone) B-5 which is the single most valuable variety of the year. And, as such, very easy to compare to known examples of the variety. It's in that comparison where one finds a myriad of details indicating this couldn't possibly be a genuine coin.

We might have had a harder time if they'd been smart enough to make it a Narrow Date.

The date alone is an enormous red flag for a counterfeit.

I also agree. The stars on the reverse are slightly wrong for B-5 variety as well. Impressive counterfeit though; so much so, we should learn as much as we can about where it may have come from.

Pretty bad counterfeit to my eye, but better than many of them. The date and the 'sharpness' gives it away. Unfortunately you did get ripped off, but its better to learn early than later : (

Full stop. Right there. No need to even consider whether this is counterfeit or not.
