What was, in the history of PCGS, the highest grade used for any circulation coin? Were there anything higher than MS 68 for circulation coins?

I just quickly looked at mostly the modern U.S coins and according to the population reports, 2 non SMS 1994-P nickels were deemed perfect. There is a small grouping of coins that were graded MS-69 including an amazing 1793 Wreath cent.

Interesting! I never knew that there were coins graded MS 70 from bussiness strikes.

MS69PL.
PL means prooflike whereas MS stands for uncirculated bussiness strike. Is MS69PL a coin that was meant for both of these strikes?

There are at least 16 1939-D Mercury dimes graded MS69FB.

PL coins are circulation strikes that were struck by dies that were fresh and shiny giving them a proof-like finish.

Therefore PL must be different than specimen?

they graded a Lincoln Cent MS-70. It sold for over $10,000 developed spots in the holder and was downgraded to 69. PCGS had to buy it back.

@Petersun - Aye, proof-like is merely a quality of a business strike coin, rather than actually being an actual proof *strike* with proof dies, or a specimen strike (which is a catch-all for anything *other* than business or proof strike). :-)
