I was recently updating a 50 State Quarters book when I noticed that I have a New Hampshire quarter with no mint mark on the obverse. I looked through about 15 to 20 other New Hampshire coins and they all had a P or D. Is this a documented error or is there a reason why it is missing?

I thought, and I will research to be sure, the the Philly quarters will have no mint mark, Denver will have "d", and the proofs will be "s". I would make sure the "P's" you are seeing are definitely p's and not d's.

I will look for more info though to try to help/confirm what I said. I may be way off.

I think I am wrong, but I can't seem to find a pic of the "p" anywhere. I will keep looking.

Philly quarters have P's...all denominations above the penny from Philadelphia have to have the P. As for the NH quarter...I have one like it too. I think it's a dropped mintmark, relatively common error. But dunno.

Can you post a picture, and if not maybe a scan. It could be a filed die or a struck through piece

Hi ACTF_ZETT

A picture of the coin would be helpful.

the weakness in the st of trust and the slight impression of the mint mark ,leads me to think filled die.

Looks like a combination of die fill and worn die rather than doubling. If there is any doubling its most likely MDD which will cause the die to wear faster especially around the legend and any main outlines.
